The 2001-02 NBA season was the Timberwolves' 13th season in the NBA.〔(2001-02 Minnesota Timberwolves )〕 Power forward Joe Smith would return to Minnesota after playing one year with the Detroit Pistons. The Timberwolves finished third in the Midwest Division with a 50-32 record. Kevin Garnett and Wally Szczerbiak were selected to play in the 2002 NBA All-Star Game. In the first round of the playoffs, the Timberwolves were swept 3-0 by the Dallas Mavericks.
